Gongpyeong Historic Sites Museum opened on September 12, 2018, to preserve Seoul’s urban remains fully on their original site. During the Gongpyeong Districts 1, 2, and 4 urban redevelopment project in 2015, alleyways and building sites from historic Seoul—from Joseon-era Hanyang to modern Gyeongseong—were unearthed largely intact. Through a variety of content and exhibition methods using excavated everyday artifacts, the museum presents Hanyang as it was in the 16th and 17th centuries. Alleyways used from the Joseon period through the present were also identified, so visitors can walk Imunan-gil and Jeondong Alley and feel as if they have stepped into the Joseon era.
