Visit details

Nakseonjae sits on the border of Changdeokgung and Changgyeonggung. Heonjong built Nakseonjae in 1847 (Heonjong 13) on the Nakseondang site for concubine Gyeongbin Kim, then Seokbokheon and Sugangjae the next year. Nakseonjae was his study and sarangchae; Seokbokheon was Gyeongbin’s quarters; Sugangjae housed Queen Sunwon. Later Empress Sunjeong, Crown Princess Bangja, and Princess Deokhye lived and died here. Buildings have no dancheong; a rear garden uses stepped stone beds, chimneys, and strangely shaped stones.
