Visit details

Namsangol Time Capsule Square holds a capsule of about 600 objects meant to show Seoul life at the city’s 600th anniversary, to be opened 400 years later at the 1,000th. Seoul buried the capsule on 29 November 1994: 1.3 m across, 1.7 m high, 2.5 tons, shaped after the Bosingak bell. The plaza is a 1,500-pyeong crater-like basin 42 m across, with marble messages from world mayors, 12 columns, and ginkgo trees. Contents mix originals (30%), models and drawings (5%), CD-ROM or microfilm (25%), and video (40%), from crop seeds and school textbooks to news of the Seongsu Bridge collapse.
