Visit details

A Baekje Hanseong-period earthen fortress on flat ground, boat-shaped. The west wall along the Hangang is lost; about 2.7 km remains of an estimated 3.7 km original, larger than Goguryeo Gungnaeseong or Silla Wolseong. Wall height was 10.8 m, later raised to as much as 13.3 m. After the 1925 flood, bronze pots and belt ornaments led to identification as Hanam Wiryeseong. Designated Joseon Historic Site No. 27 in 1936 and a national historic site in 1963. Finds include early Baekje roads, large pit buildings, tiled buildings, a possible shrine, and ritual objects. Preservation and restoration in six zones have run since 2000.
