Visit details

This bridge was started in 1420 because of frequent processions by Jeongjong and Taejong, then left unfinished when Taejong died. Work resumed in 1475 for people using the road and finished in 1483 under Seongjong. It was also called Jebangyo because crossing felt like walking level ground. It was the largest early-Joseon bridge, using 64 stone piers cut as diamonds to reduce water resistance. Heavy rain in the 1920s washed away part of it; a 1970s repair added concrete on the right, so the original look is partly lost.
