Visit details

Ttukdo’s first purification plant, Korea’s first, stands where the Waterworks Museum is today. On 9 December 1903 C. H. Collbran and H. R. Bostwick received a concession from Emperor Gojong; Korean Water Works Co. began work in August 1906 and finished Ttukdo plant 1 in August 1908. From 1 September 1908 slow filtration supplied 12,500 m³ a day to 125,000 people inside the four gates and Yongsan. Part of the site is still Ttukdo Arisu Purification Center with advanced treatment; part is the museum on Seoul tap water, technology history, and water-and-environment programs.
