Seoullo 7017 began when the Seoul Station overpass, completed in the 1970s, was found to have safety problems and faced demolition; instead of tearing it down, the project reused the overpass to bring new life to the area, linking the once-isolated Seoul Station district and remaking it as 17 pedestrian paths. The name Seoullo 7017 holds several meanings: an overpass made in 1970 reborn in 2017; a 1970s vehicle road reborn as 17 people paths; and a 17-meter-high overpass built in the 1970s. True to that name, Seoullo 7017 has 17 walking routes that reconnect a divided city and bring vitality to a stagnant area.
Amenities include an information center, rest spots, a magnolia exhibition hall, cafés, the Seoullo exhibition hall, a rose exhibition hall, and a garden classroom. If you reserve a Seoul walking-tour interpretation program in advance on the VisitSeoul website, you can explore Seoullo 7017 together with Culture Station Seoul 284, Sungnyemun, Hanyangdoseong (the Seoul City Wall), and other historic sites and attractions while hearing commentary from a Seoul culture and tourism interpreter.
