Ssamziegil, Insadong’s best-known destination, is a craft shopping complex where visitors can encounter and enjoy works and culture that reinterpret tradition in a contemporary way. On offer are high-end traditional crafts by Korea’s holders of Important Intangible Cultural Heritage, contemporary craft, and design goods with a distinctly Korean sensibility. There are also craft shops in ceramics, textiles, metal, and wood, and fresh, experimental design shops by younger designers. Exhibitions, performances, and other cultural events take place throughout Ssamziegil.
One-day classes in ceramic, mother-of-pearl, leather, glass, and soap craft let visitors make pieces themselves. It is a place where adults and children, friends and couples can enjoy arts and culture together.
