The Yongsan Park Partial Opening Site is part of Yongsan Park in Yongsan-gu, Seoul—an area opened in part while the park is still being created. Until Yongsan Park is completed, this zone lets residents use a portion of the park, offering space to enjoy nature and spend leisure time.
The site was part of Yongsan Garrison. The garrison was formerly used as a U.S. military base, land used for military purposes while American forces were stationed there. It was used as a U.S. military base from the 1880s. The return of the land began after U.S. forces left Seoul in 2004, and Seoul Metropolitan Government then made plans to develop the area as a park.
Yongsan Park is planned as a large Seoul park of about 3.5 square kilometers, and the partial opening site is a section opened to the public during that work. The former base included military facilities, housing, and military roads; after the return, cultural facilities, rest areas, and sports facilities are planned along with the park.
