Korea Access Check

How to ask a Korean venue about accessibility

A practical bilingual script, why a short email beats a website badge, and which phone numbers actually help wheelchair travelers in Seoul.

Why email still wins

Official datasets lag renovations. A one-line website badge will not tell you if the accessible room is already sold, if the rental wheelchair is a child-size manual, or if the “ramp” is a steep portable plate.

A dated email reply is evidence you can carry. Phone calls disappear. Korea Access Check generates a bilingual note on each place page; send both languages. Korean first is polite and faster.

For lift vans and equipment rental, use /guides/danurim-accessible-taxis-seoul. For which district to sleep in, use /guides/where-to-stay-wheelchair-seoul. This page is only the questions you send.

Keep the list short

Ask only the unknowns that would cancel the visit: step-free entrance, restroom, elevator, and for hotels a roll-in shower. State your wheelchair type (manual, power, scooter), width if you know it, and whether you travel alone.

Do not paste a 20-line ADA checklist. Busy desks skip it.

  • Dates and number of people
  • Wheelchair type and whether you travel alone
  • Step-free entrance?
  • Elevator to the space you will use?
  • Accessible restroom?
  • Hotels only: roll-in shower and door width

Copy-ready lines (Korean first)

(Hello. I use a wheelchair and would like to check access before visiting.)

(Can I enter the main door without steps? If there is a ramp, is it steep?)

Subway ramp card, for station staff: 휠체어 안전발판 부탁합니다.

If you need a voice in the middle

1330, the Korea Travel Hotline, is the usual interpreter bridge (Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese, and other languages on a posted schedule). VisitKorea prints it on official guides. Use it to call a venue while you are on the line.

Danurim (1670-0880, weekdays 09:00–18:00) can discuss lift-equipped vehicles and equipment rental; it is not a substitute for the hotel’s own room inventory. Booking steps: /guides/danurim-accessible-taxis-seoul.

After they reply, save the email. If the story changes at check-in, you have a paper trail.
