Visit details

Seoul Amsa-dong Site is a Neolithic settlement on the Hangang facing Achasanseong. Three cultural layers date by radiocarbon to about 4000–3000 BCE. Excavations found more than 40 house pits, attached features, and stone piles. Houses were dug round or with softened corners, about 5–6 m across and 70–100 cm deep, with stone-lined hearths in the center and mainly south-facing entrances, usually four corner posts. Pointed-bottom comb-pattern pottery, stone axes, net sinkers, and charred acorns were found. It is the largest village-scale Neolithic site confirmed in Korea.
