Visit details

Bonghwasan is a 160.1 m isolated hill touching Sangbong, Junghwa, Muk-dong, and Sinnae in Jungnang-gu. Views reach Buramsan, Dobongsan, and Yangju to the north, and Namsan to the south; Achasan’s ridge lies to the east. Also called Bongujae, it joined Seoul from Gyeonggi-do on 1 January 1963. A beacon that relayed from Hanisan in Yangju toward Mokmyeoksan (Namsan) was restored on 7 November 1994. Slightly south of the summit is a sansin shrine, a site of village gut and mountain rites about 400 years ago; the present brick-and-cement building replaced one lost to fire in summer 1992.
