The former Hwarangdae Station, Seoul’s last whistle-stop, has been reborn as Hwarangdae Railroad Park. After the Gyeongchun Line opened in 1939, this stretch of track, where service ended in 2010, was made into a park. The old abandoned line was left in place rather than removed, transforming the site into a romantic space that preserves memories of the old Gyeongchun Line and also provides a walking path. Along the disused track, real trains are displayed here and there—a 1950s Mika steam locomotive, a narrow-gauge train, and streetcars from the Czech Republic and Hiroshima, Japan—making it a regular photo spot for photography enthusiasts and a quiet walking space loved by local residents. The former Hwarangdae Station in the park has been made into an exhibition hall where the structure and chronology of the station and the history of the Gyeongchun Line can be seen on digital screens, and a ticket window, steel desks, and a nostalgic train space add analog charm.
