Visit details

Bugak Sky Palgakjeong is a hanok-style octagonal pavilion on Bugaksan Mountain (342 m above sea level) that draws on traditional Korean beauty, a scenic lookout in the heart of Seoul with a naturally favored setting. Bugak Skyway, opened in September 1968, is a well-known drive up to the pavilion: a tourist road about 19 km long that follows the ridge of Bugaksan, Seoul’s principal mountain, toward the northeast.

Bugak Palgakjeong looks out on the grand ridgeline linking Bibong and Munsusbong of Bukhansan and, on the other side, the city of Seoul seated toward Namsan. Well-tended street trees and some 100,000 ornamental trees bloom in season along the whole route, and together with Namsan’s circular road the course offers a sweeping view of Seoul. About halfway along, a rest area on the ridge summit lets visitors pause, take in the vista again, and rest. For visitors from elsewhere in Korea and from abroad, it is a sightseeing route that shows Seoul at a glance.
