Visit details

Heunghwamun is the main gate of Gyeonghuigung. The palace once had five gates; Heunghwamun faced east toward Jongno near today’s Salvation Army building. During Japanese colonial rule the road was widened in 1915 and the gate was turned south; in 1932 it was moved as the gate of Bakmunsa. After liberation it served Yeongbingwan and the Shilla Hotel. In 1988 Seoul restored it to the Gyeonghuigung site, at the former Gaeyangmun location.
