Visit details

Gyeongui Line Book Street is a book-themed street created on the former Gyeongui Line railbed at the Hongik University complex station. It revives, in a contemporary sense, the chaekgado (bookshelves-in-painting) culture of King Jeongjo’s era in the late 18th century, when books were used as a means of civil governance (munchi), and offers citizens a mixed cultural space centered on books. Construction was completed in October 2016, with the hope that visitors would share the wisdom of a healthy life and realize their dreams through the great value of a published book, and that the street would become a starting point for raising the added value of Mapo’s publishing industry.
