Maeheon Citizens’ Forest, Korea’s first park designed as a forest, was made in 1986 to improve the area around Yangjae Tollgate before the 1986 Asian Games and 1988 Olympics. About 250,000 trees of 70 species were planted. North of Maeheon-ro are the Yun Bong-gil Memorial, a floor fountain, and a playground. South are memorials for the White Horse guerrilla unit, KAL 858, the Sampoong Department Store collapse, and the Umyeonsan landslide. Zone 3 is Seocho-gu’s arts park with a play yard, outdoor stage, exhibition space, sculpture park, and gathering plaza.
