Visit details

The National Gugak Center is Korea’s national institution for traditional performing arts, covering performance, research, education, and overseas exchange. It traces to court music offices from the Silla period, continued as the former royal aak bureau after 1945, and became the National Gugak Center in 1951 in Busan, later moving via Unni-dong and Jangchung-dong to the present Seocho-dong site in 1987. As of 2010 it is under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, with four ensembles: court music, folk music, dance, and creative music.
