Sindang-dong Tteokbokki Town lines both sides of an alley that formed in the late 1970s and peaked in the 1980s, when DJ booths became a symbol and high-school baseball crowds from nearby Dongdaemun Stadium filled the street. It is designated a Seoul Future Heritage. Ma Bok-rim’s grandmother’s shop says it sold tteokbokki from 1953, first with only gochujang. The dish is now a meal, often with egg, glass noodles, fish cake, jjolmyeon, ramen, squid, shrimp, and cheese.
