The Samsung-dong area around the World Trade Center has long been a hub for international business. From the 1990s it also drew Gangnam youth culture, and in 2014 it was designated the Gangnam MICE Tourism Special Zone after the Gangnam Style boom. COEX is the center for exhibitions, conventions, and conferences, with department stores, hotels, a duty-free shop, and the city airport terminal nearby. Large LED screens and media art are used in a Times Square-style setting.
