Heunginjimun is the east gate of Seoul City Wall, also called Dongdaemun. First built in Taejo 5 (1396), repaired in Danjong 1 (1453), the present gate dates to Gojong 6 (1869). It is a two-story, five-by-two-bay building with a trapezoidal hip roof and late-Joseon dapo bracketing. A semicircular ongseong barbican, unique among the eight gates, protects the outside. It sits beside Exit 9 of Dongdaemun Station on Lines 1 and 4; City Wall Park, Hanyangdoseong Museum, DDP, and Dongdaemun Market are nearby.
