The National Folk Museum of Korea is a national museum specializing in folk life history, with a main building in Gyeongbokgung Palace and a Paju branch. It holds and displays some 4,000 traditional everyday folk artifacts. The main building also houses the Children’s Museum. Exhibition galleries consist of three permanent exhibitions on the themes of a Korean’s day, year, and lifetime, plus special and outdoor exhibitions. The outdoor grounds include statues of the twelve zodiac animals, jangseung (village guardian posts), a millstone mill, and “Street of Memories,” a recreation of a 1970s–80s alley. A variety of cultural education activities—educational programs, traditional holiday events, and experiences for international visitors—are offered through the website. The Children’s Museum is by advance reservation only, with one visit per person per day, and is designed so visitors can experience traditional culture in an easy, engaging way.

The National Children’s Folk Museum is a hands-on museum designed for children to learn about Korean traditional culture easily and enjoyably. It is located next to Exhibition Hall 2 of the National Folk Museum of Korea’s main building, and admission is free. Entry is allowed for 30 minutes at a time, 50 people per session, and activities run on a set schedule. Operating hours and programs differ by month, so check the website before visiting.
