The National Theater of Korea, founded on 29 April 1950, was Asia’s first national theater. It is Korea’s only producing theater that turns traditional arts into contemporary work. Venues are Haeoreum Theater (1,221 seats), Daloreum Theater (512), Byeoloreum Theater (100), and outdoor Haneul Theater (627). Resident companies are the National Changgeuk Company, National Dance Company, and National Gugak Orchestra. A repertory season system began in September 2012.
