Seoul Metropolitan Library stands beside Seoul City Hall. Seoul Metropolitan Government develops library policy so residents can use library services conveniently anytime and anywhere, and on that basis, together with some one thousand libraries in Seoul, it offers a range of services for information, reading promotion, lifelong learning, and cultural activity. Visitors can receive a wide range of materials on Seoul and use materials in every field—history, culture, urban planning, transport, environment, and administration—as well as overseas-travel reports, research papers, audiovisual materials, and electronic information. By strengthening integrated mobile and web services in an age of digital transformation, the library is expanding residents’ access to information and establishing itself as an open, safe space for experiences and exchange that help realize residents’ dreams and hopes. Outdoor libraries include Book-Reading Seoul Plaza in front of City Hall and Gwanghwamun Book Madang at Gwanghwamun Square—places in busy plazas where people can read freely and rest.
